Swain Recovery Center is a residential substance abuse treatment program located within the beautiful campus of the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Center in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The environment promotes healing of the mind, body, and spirit for individuals who are seeking drug-free recovery.
Why Residential Substance Abuse Treatment?
Residential treatment involves a staying on campus, where clients can be monitored and supported by 24 hour staff. Our clients have used substances, either alcohol or drugs, to the point where it is causing problems in their life: family, school, peers, legal status, mental health, moods, self-esteem, and spirituality. Our program includes one on one and group therapy for the individual with substance abuse issues, as well as family counseling, an introduction to the 12 step model, and community based living.
Who Do We Serve?
Swain Recovery Center is a voluntary, confidential program based on a comprehensive client assessment. We have the capacity to serve 22 people (6 adolescents and 16 adults), male and female. Within that scope we give special priority admissions to pregnant women and IV drug users. We also serve substance abusers with dual/multiple diagnosis, and criminal justice clients.
Who Are We?
Swain Recovery Center (SRC) offers a unique treatment opportunity for adults and adolescents, as well as their families, who are struggling with substance abuse. We have the experience of working with children and adults for over 20 years. SRC is a small residential treatment program delivering intensive treatment for a period of 42, 60, or 90 days. Because of our small client to counselor ratio, there is a great deal of individual care. While encouraging the community to work together and independently, we blend both adults and adolescents in a community environment.
As part of our work on substance abuse, we make every effort to help our clients develop the emotional intelligence to navigate life without using drugs to medicate with. We are a tobacco free program. Our therapy focuses on the individual with a combination of talk therapy, recreational therapy and expressive arts therapy. Our program is in part based on the 12 step model. This unique blend of adults and adolescents offers our clients the opportunity to learn from each other and to see how addiction impacts our lives at various ages and stages of life. It is in this unique blend of clients and the relating to each other's stories that a healing occurs.
What about School?
Our adolescent program also has an in-house educational program where our adolescent clients spend approximately 10 hrs of school each week as they attempt rejoin the educational process. Students who are at least 16 may choose to work towards their GED and may even successfully attain while at SRC. On average in the 60-90 days while students are at SRC their reading comprehension goes up 2.7 grade levels. .
How Are Children Safe?
We place primary emphasis on the uniqueness of the individual. Our supervision of the clients and therapy are tailored to helping our clients feel safe and respected. We want to help our clients rejoin the society with belief in themselves and a desire to be productive members of the community.
